The Cottage and Sleeping Arrangements
Is BeachBooshay directly on Lake Erie?
Yes. BeachBooshay is a lakefront cottage in the historic Sand Beach gated community near Oak Harbor, Ohio. Guests have access to the cottage’s private Lake Erie beach, outdoor seating, picnic table, gas grill, and fire pit. The community has one-way access and no through traffic, with Lake Erie to the north and a wildlife-rich marsh to the south.
How many guests can the cottage accommodate?
BeachBooshay accommodates up to 10 guests. It has two bedrooms designed for families and multigenerational groups. Each bedroom has a twin-over-full bunk bed and a full-size trundle and sleeps four people comfortably. A pull-out sleeper sofa accommodates two additional guests, bringing the cottage’s total capacity to 10. Because this arrangement differs from conventional hotel beds, guests should review the layout and photographs before booking to make sure it suits everyone.
What is included in the kitchen?
The kitchen is fully equipped for family meals and group gatherings. It includes a stove, microwave, dishwasher, blender, toaster, Crock-Pot, cookware, dishes, kitchen utensils, and children’s plates and cups. The large open bar seats up to 10 people.
Guests should still bring their preferred food, drinks, and any specialty ingredients or tools they consider essential.
Are linens and towels provided?
Yes. Bed linens, bath towels, and beach towels are provided.
Does the cottage have air conditioning and heat?
Yes. The cottage itself is fully heated and air-conditioned and also has an electric fireplace. The enclosed front porch does not have built-in heat, but portable space heaters are provided for use on the porch during cooler weather.
Is Wi-Fi available, and how fast is it?
Yes. High-speed Wi-Fi internet is provided for guests, including internet-connected television and streaming.
Is there a washer and dryer?
Yes. A washer and dryer are available at the cottage.
Is there an electric-vehicle charger?
Yes. BeachBooshay has a 9.6 kW ChargePoint Level 2 charger with a J1772 connector, and charging is included with the stay. Most J1772-compatible vehicles can charge directly. Tesla drivers should bring the appropriate adapter for their vehicle.
Beach, Swimming, and Lake Conditions
What is the private beach like?
The cottage has its own Lake Erie beach area for guests. Steps take guests over the seawall and directly onto the beach. Lake Erie is a natural shoreline, so beach width, water depth, wave action, and the exact entry conditions can change with wind, weather, and lake level. Recent property photographs provide the best general view, but no photograph can guarantee the conditions on a particular day.
Children and non-swimmers should always be closely supervised at the water. Guests with mobility concerns should contact us before booking so we can discuss the current route from the cottage to the beach.
Can we walk along the beach?
Yes. Guests can enjoy walks along the Lake Erie beach from BeachBooshay. Because this is a natural shoreline, the width and ease of the walking route can change with lake level, waves, and weather. Please respect neighboring property boundaries and any posted community rules. Pets must be leashed whenever they leave the BeachBooshay property, including during walks along the beach.
Can we swim at the beach?
Guests may enjoy the lake when conditions are appropriate, but Lake Erie conditions can change quickly. The private beach is not guaranteed to receive the same routine testing or posted notices as a monitored public beach. Before entering the water, check the weather, look for posted or regional advisories, and inspect the water for unusual color, surface scum, strong waves, debris, or other unsafe conditions.
For current public-beach advisories, visit Ohio BeachGuard. When in doubt, stay out of the water.
Are life jackets and beach supplies provided?
BeachBooshay provides beach towels, an inflatable kayak, beach chairs, sand toys, fishing rods, and both children’s and adult life jackets. Available quantities and sizes may change as equipment is inspected or replaced.
Every life jacket must fit its user correctly. Families should bring properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets for small children, non-swimmers, or anyone whose size may not match the equipment at the cottage. Flotation toys and puddle jumpers are not substitutes for close adult supervision.
Can we have a fire on the beach?
The property includes a fire pit on the beach. Firewood is not supplied at the cottage, but it is available for purchase at a local gas station. Fires must remain in the designated fire pit and are always subject to weather, wind, local restrictions, community rules, and any instructions provided with the rental. Never leave a fire unattended, and fully extinguish it before going inside or leaving the area.
When is mayfly season, and do mayflies bite?
Mayflies are a normal part of Lake Erie life. They do not bite or sting, and a strong hatch is generally associated with a productive freshwater ecosystem. The largest local hatches often occur in late spring or early summer, but exact timing and intensity vary with water temperature, wind, and weather.
During a hatch, mayflies are attracted to bright exterior lights and may collect around doors, windows, cars, and the shoreline. Keeping unnecessary outdoor lights off, closing doors promptly, and brushing insects from walkways can make them easier to manage. They are temporary and harmless, even when their numbers are impressive.
Children and Family Amenities
What equipment is provided for babies and children?
The cottage provides a Pack ‘n Play or bassinet, children’s plates and cups, bed linens, beach towels, sand toys, children’s flotation gear, and a selection of indoor board games. The Sand Beach community also has a fenced playground and basketball courts. The bunk-and-trundle bedroom layout is designed with families in mind.
Is the property childproof?
BeachBooshay is family-oriented, but no lakefront vacation home can be completely childproof. The property is directly beside open water and contains bunk beds, outdoor areas, cooking equipment, a fire pit, and other normal household features. Adults are responsible for supervising children throughout the stay, especially near the lake, fire pit, bunk beds, porch, and parking areas.
If your child has a specific safety or accessibility need, contact us before booking so we can provide accurate details.
Is the playground private?
The fenced playground and basketball courts are community amenities within the gated Sand Beach neighborhood. They are not exclusive to BeachBooshay guests, so children should remain supervised and follow community rules.
Fishing, Boating, Ferries, and Attractions
Where is the nearest marina or boat launch?
Wild Wings Campground and Marina is less than one mile from the cottage at 9055 State Route 2, Oak Harbor, Ohio 43449. The family-owned marina has 314 slips on 157 floating docks and offers seasonal and transient marina services with convenient access to Lake Erie.
Fishing operators based at Wild Wings report on-site commercial fish cleaning, tables for cleaning your own catch, and access to bait, tackle, and Ohio fishing licenses. Because launch access, transient docks, fish-cleaning service, rates, and operating hours can change seasonally, call Wild Wings at 419-898-3454 or check its website before arriving.
Can we park a boat trailer at BeachBooshay?
Yes. The property can accommodate up to four cars, and a boat trailer will fit. Guests bringing an unusually large trailer should contact us before arrival if they want to confirm the available space.
How do we get to Put-in-Bay or Kelleys Island?
BeachBooshay works well as a mainland base for island day trips. The two principal ferry operators are:
- Miller Ferry, which carries passengers and vehicles from Catawba to Put-in-Bay and Middle Bass Island.
- Jet Express, which offers passenger service from Port Clinton and Sandusky on published seasonal routes.
Schedules, parking, fares, bicycle rules, pet rules, and seasonal operating dates change. Check directly with the ferry operator before leaving the cottage, arrive earlier than the recommended boarding time, and make any required vehicle reservation in advance.
How far is BeachBooshay from Cedar Point and other attractions?
Typical drive times from the cottage are approximately:
- 10 minutes to Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge
- 20 minutes to downtown Port Clinton
- 45 minutes to Cedar Point
- Less than one mile to a marina and boat launch
BeachBooshay is located between Toledo and Sandusky with convenient access to State Route 2. Drive times are estimates and can increase during summer weekends, ferry traffic, Cedar Point events, road construction, and major regional events.
Where can we go birdwatching?
Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge is approximately 10 minutes from the cottage, and Magee Marsh Wildlife Area is also nearby. This area is internationally known for spring migration and the Biggest Week in American Birding. Birders also enjoy the marsh immediately south of the Sand Beach community, where guests frequently see bald eagles and other wildlife.
For current hours, trail conditions, closures, and accessibility information, check the official refuge or wildlife-area website before visiting.
Where can we buy groceries?
For quick groceries, drinks, and basic supplies, Dollar General is approximately five minutes from the cottage. Kroger also delivers groceries directly to BeachBooshay, making it easy to stock the kitchen without adding another stop to arrival day. Delivery windows and product availability vary, so guests should place larger orders in advance when possible.
Additional shopping is available in Oak Harbor and Port Clinton, including Community Markets, Bassett’s Market, Kroger, and Walmart. Store hours and services can change seasonally, so check directly before making a special trip.
The cottage’s full kitchen makes it easy to prepare meals, and Port Clinton also has restaurants, carryout options, and seasonal waterfront dining. A more detailed local dining guide is provided with the guest information.
What is open during spring, fall, and winter?
The cottage can be enjoyed beyond summer, but many island ferries, marinas, waterfront restaurants, and attractions operate seasonally or reduce their hours after summer. Spring is especially popular for birding and fishing. Fall brings Cedar Point’s HalloWeekends and regional harvest or Halloween events. Sandusky hosts holiday programming during selected winter weekends.
Always confirm hours and ferry service directly with the business or attraction before planning a day around it.
Parking, Accessibility, Pets, and House Policies
How many vehicles can we park?
Free parking is available for up to four cars. A boat trailer will also fit on the property. Vehicles must not block the lane, neighboring property, or community access.
Is BeachBooshay wheelchair accessible?
BeachBooshay is not advertised as a wheelchair-accessible property. Steps without a handrail cross the seawall and lead directly onto the private beach. Guests with mobility needs should contact us before booking so we can discuss the cottage entry, doorways, bathroom, bedrooms, porch, and beach-access route.
Are pets allowed?
Yes. Pets are welcome at BeachBooshay without size or breed restrictions. While on the cottage property, pets must remain under control and within the property boundaries. Whenever a pet leaves the property, including for a walk along the beach, it must be on a leash. Guests should include their pets in the reservation.
Is smoking or vaping allowed?
No. Smoking and vaping are not permitted at BeachBooshay.
Are parties or events allowed?
Large parties are not permitted. The cottage is intended for registered guests and respectful family or small-group stays. Occupancy, visitor, noise, parking, and event rules in the booking agreement and Sand Beach community rules apply throughout the stay.
Booking, Arrival, and Guest Support
What are check-in and check-out times?
Standard check-in begins at 3:00 p.m., and check-out is by 10:00 a.m. Any early-arrival or late-departure request must be approved in advance and depends on the cleaning and booking schedule.
How does check-in work?
Check-in is contactless. Guests receive arrival instructions and a private keyless-entry code for the front door before their stay. The Sand Beach community does not require a gate code. For security, the front-door code and detailed entry directions are never posted publicly.
What is the cancellation policy?
Reservations may be cancelled under BeachBooshay’s 14-day cancellation policy. To qualify under that policy, cancellation must be made at least 14 days before check-in. Cancellations made inside the 14-day window may not be refundable. The exact refund terms and any nonrefundable charges are displayed during direct booking before payment.
Because weather, attraction closures, and personal travel disruptions can occur, guests may also wish to consider independent travel insurance.
Is there a minimum age to book?
Yes. The primary renter must be at least 21 years old. Identification is not required as part of the standard booking process.
What should we do if we need help during our stay?
Use the guest contact information included with your reservation. For emergencies involving immediate danger, fire, or a medical crisis, call 911 first. For a maintenance or property issue, contact the BeachBooshay host using the number or messaging method in your arrival instructions.
Where can we check availability and book?
Use the BeachBooshay direct-booking page to see current availability, pricing, and reservation terms. Booking directly avoids third-party platform fees and provides instant confirmation when the selected dates are available.
Still Have a Question?
We want families to know exactly what to expect before arriving. If you have a question about the cottage, a child’s needs, accessibility, fishing equipment, boat parking, lake conditions, or a special trip plan, please contact BeachBooshay before booking.
